The provenance of this fine Adam giltwood arm chair is Cliveden House, Buckinghamshire, England, one of the great country houses in all of England. In 1893 the estate was purchased by William Waldor Astor. Between the two world wars, at the time of the 2nd Viscount Astor and Lady Astor, Cliveden became known as a gathering place for influential people who became known as “the Cliveden set.”
The original pair of chairs is in the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Getty, San Francisco.
